Description
This sculptural metal object is a decorative botanical holder, designed to cradle or present small natural or symbolic items. The piece takes the form of a thick circular ring, deeply cast with high-relief ferns, leaves, blossoms, and berries, motifs strongly associated with the Art Nouveau / Jugendstil movement. The central aperture is intentionally open and unthreaded, with no evidence of mechanical fittings, indicating that the object was not designed to house a watch, lens, or instrument. Instead, the ring functions as a support or collar, allowing objects to be placed, rested, or partially seated within the opening. Likely uses include: Botanical specimen holder (pressed flowers, dried sprigs, seed pods) Posy or devotional holder Mineral or crystal display support Small curio or relic stand Cabinet-of-curiosities display element The sculptural detailing extends fully around the object, including areas that would never be visible if it were a functional mount—strong evidence that aesthetic presentation, not concealment or mechanics, was the primary purpose.
