Letter
RE.LE.COLLBER.55
My dear Bertie: I did not get away from Great Falls today, but will leave tomorrow a.m. for Helena, and be there Mon. & Tues., or longer, if business justifies. My delay here has resulted in a fine “killing.” I landed a good party for agent and my aggregate sales were $1031.57. So do you blame me for staying? I changed my agency from an old to a new man, and from present indications I feel I have made no mistake, and my future outlook for Great Falls is indeed quite flattering. The entire sales of our agent here last year were only $661.75. Now wouldn’t that jar you? This is certainly gratifying to me, to land such a nice business on my maiden trip. I know you will be pleased to hear this good news, and to know that my trip east, which I had so dreaded, has such a nice beginning. I certainly hope it may average up as well on the entire trip. But don’t expect to hear such flattering reports from all points—because you might be disappointed. I hardly know what to expect from this country, because the line I have been pulling in is really record business. Oh “Ain’t you glad we came.” Maybe the result of this trip will be the means of me getting the salary I asked for when I came out. Wouldn’t that be fine if it did? I’m sure you will join me in the best wishes for future developments our way. I am feeling quite well again since my little spell of neuralgia, and hope this may find you all the same. Would like to be home tonight so I could spend Sunday with you. However I hope you may enjoy it, notwithstanding we can’t enjoy it together. My next letter will probably be written from Helena, and until you hear from me again, here’s looking straight at you. With a sweet good night kiss for you and the little ones, I am Lovingly, your husband, G.W.D.
