1908.4.6 – The Butte Hotel, Butte, Montana

Monday, Apr. 6, 1908 Dear Bertie: I have been stirring around this afternoon, but kept my bed late this morning, on account of that kink in my back, I wrote you of yesterday. Last night I plastered my back, and to my great relief found it did good service. And I am still wearing it, and will do so until I am better. Yesterday I had considerable difficulty to straighten up, and when I tried to do so with great discomfort. I think I will be alright very shortly, if the improvement of the last 24 hours continues. I did quite well this afternoon, selling about $50.00 worth of stuff. I am certainly gratified at the nice result of my visit to Butte. I will likely leave here Wednesday for Anaconda, and would suggest you address your next letter there, c/o General Delivery. I would first say here, that if you should ever find it necessary to telegraph me, to address your telegram to the town at which you wish to locate me, c/o General Delivery, unless you know first what hotel I may be found at. Probably in this way you would get me quicker than the usual address to the firm. Tonight I heard another North Pole lecture, given by Capt. Amundsen, a Norwegian, who three years ago made the Northwest Passage by open sea. I found it quite interesting, as the lecture was illustrated by photographs. I am feeling quite well, aside from the back ache, and hope to be in normal condition quite soon. I hope this will find you and the little ones all in fine shape, and enjoying yourselves. With my best love to you and lots of hugs and kisses for yourself and the babies, and a sweet good night, I am lovingly, Your husband, Geo. P. D.
